Isaiah 45:5-7

“I am the Lord, and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God.  I will grid you, though you have not known Me; That men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun That there is no one besides Me.  I am the Lord, and there is no other, The one forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the Lord who does all these.”

just a little recap

Hello everyone!

We have about 40 days until we are on the ground in Ayiti!  So exciting!  Sorry for the late recap, we have been busy over here trying to get everything organized.  We are planning to have our next meeting at Kings Harbor Torrance in some room that is yet to be determined at 7pm.  More to follow as we get it in place.  That’s THIS Thursday.  Oh and - the whole Manassero clan is back in Haiti if you didn’t know.  Ok.  Without further adieu, the recap.

Tickets = Purchased.  The cost was just over 600 dollars.  We depart LAX a 9:40pm on Halloween and get to Miami at 5:40AM.  We leave Miami at 7:15AM and arrive in Haiti at 8:15AM.  Returning, we leave Haiti on November 10th at 1:30pm and get to Miami at 3:40pm.  We leave Miami at 5:55pm and arrive back to LAX at 8:55pm.  We hope to have your itineraries printed out for you on Thursday.  According to the American Airlines website, we can take 2 50 pound bags a piece with us plus a carryon and a personal item.  Most of the items in your 2 50 pound bags will be donations, keep in mind.  If we actually got all those at about fifty pounds, that would be half a ton of stuff we would be taking in to Haiti - haha.  That would be cool!

Team meeting:

Our last team meeting was so fun, I’m really glad you all could make it.  I know both Alicia and I are so enjoying getting to know you all better and really can’t wait to serve with you all in Haiti.  Sharing testimonies was great and I really can’t wait to hear more of your testimonies next time.

Are you practicing your Creole???

Shots/meds – Hopefully you at least have a plan for getting these.

Passport – I think we all said we had a passport.  Your passport must be valid for 6 months after November, I believe.  That’s what I remember from the last time we were there

Mexico – Please contact Marie or Dan for more information.

We decided we were staying an extra day on our last meeting as well.

Support – Your first support check for $575 was due this week.  I am not sure how we are doing on getting this in, but we are trusting that God will provide for all of us.  Please let us know if you haven’t been able to get anything in yet, just so we know what you are doing to get things in.

Lomita Art Fair – We are still working on getting everything in place for this.  We are looking for handmade items that are from the US (weird Lomita rule) that you made (another weird Lomita rule).  This is on October 11 from 8-4.

Haiti Hunger Dinner – This will be on October 19th from 5pm-10pm.  We need a lot of volunteers so if you have anyone that would like to volunteer please send them our way.

Projects.  We have a huge list of projects and as our team grew, so did our list of possibilities.  It’s exciting to see how God will use our gifts, sometimes gifts we didn’t know we had!  Here is a current list of projects:

1.       Garden prep

2.       Picnic benches

3.       Organizing

4.       VBS

5.       Arts/Crafts

6.       Dance

7.       Baking

8.       Feeding a village

9.       Photo/video

10.   Medical

11.   Trip to the McHouls

12.   Prayer Day

13.   Painting

I’m pretty sure with this list we could work around the clock and still have things left to do!

We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday.  Please call w/any questions.

Welcome Aboard!

Hi Team!

We are in the process of purchase tickets!  Woo hoo!  They come out to be just over 600 which we think is a pretty good deal… We should have a final update for you early next week on the purchase…  We will also let you know about the meeting and where it is going to be shortly.

Welcome Aboard!

Hi Team!

We are so excited, we have just a little over a month and a half before we are on the ground in Haiti!  We also wanted to welcome aboard our two newest team members Eddie and Alina!  You will get to meet them at the next team meeting, we are excited for what God has in store for them and all of us in Haiti.  We are in talks with the travel agent about the tickets and will keep you all updated.  REMINDER:  Our trip is OFFICIALLY extended!  So much excitement.  We are coming back on the 10th, so that means an extra day with the kids and church in Haiti twice!  Thank you Bill & Sue for telling us we couldn’t leave on the 9th, I’m sure you could see the look of disappointment on all of our faces when we figured out that we would have to stay an extra day (I am being sarcastic).

Please be praying:  The Lord’s timing and direction, our projects, for provision, team unity.  Thank you!

We will send a team update soon!

Thanks –

Lucas and Alicia

Another Haiti update

Bonjou Haiti team!!!

Thanks to all who could come out today!  There are pictures on the team blog from today (http://khchaititeams.blogspot.com).  Our next team meeting is this Thursday at The Constables.  The address is 2303A Belmont Lane Redondo Beach.  The meeting is at 7pm.

Here is your Creole lesson for the week, Wally Turnbull style (as in a phrase you would never use):

Creole word for tonight is bon-bon.  Aliciia fe twop bon-bon.  Alicia makes too many cookies.  Haha.

On the agenda for this team meeting:

Prayer, worship and fellowship

We should have some Creole language CDs for you this week.

Further planning for the art fair on October 11th 8am – 4pm

Talking about airline tickets and prices

Share a testimony.  Please be prepared to do this, because we want you all to do it eventually J  We will spin Alicia around blindfolded and she will point at someone.

Hunger Dinner updates

Updates on Mexico from Marie

Projects/items to do in Haiti

We will need to get your name as it appears on your passport this week also for purchasing the tickets (we have it on the app, but we want to double check)

Don’t forget about (please reread as it has been updated a little):

Shots: You should get your shots and meds and passport ASAP if you haven’t got them already.  We highly recommend the city of Long Beach travel immunization clinic for shots, the lady there is super amazing.  You need to make an appointment, the website for the clinic is: http://www.ci.long-beach.ca.us/health/services/clinics/travel_clinic.asp  The sticks in the arm we have received previously have been: Hep A/B Typhoid and Tetanus.  Then we get some type of Malaria pills and Ciprofloxacin.  But you can just call it Cipro for short.  We don’t remember the costs on this.

Cost/Deadlines: Based on previous trips we are expecting this trip to cost somewhere in the ballpark of 1000-1250.  The first deadline for money is 575 due on September 18th.  We are going to be buying our tickets over the next week or three.  You will be responsible for the ticket once it is purchased.  The sooner you can get money in for this, the better.

Fundraising: We have many opportunities for fundraising aside from sending out support letters.  If you need help with your support letter, we are available to help.  We think it is best if the checks are made out to King’s Harbor Church and in the memo line the person writes Your Name – Haiti Oct Team and then sends it to you and you fill out a tithe envelope for that and deposit the envelope in the appropriate place

Matthew 28:18

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Great time @ TiGeorge's

We had a great time at TiGeorge's today! Some of us had goat and others had chicken or pork. When I asked what he thought I should get he said "Baaaa-aah" So I got goat. We found out he is going to be there again at about the exact same time we are, so hopefully we will get to connect with him. Here are some pictures:

First Team Meeting Recap

(This is from Friday)

Bonjou Haiti team!!!

Sorry about the delay on getting this out. Don’t forget we are going to TiGeorge’s tomorrow at 12pm, we’d love to see you all there! www.tigeorgeschicken.com or google TiGeorge’s Chicken. The next meeting this coming Thursday will be at the Constables, we will send out the address later this week. Mostly because I don’t know it off the top of my head and Alicia is going to work. All are invited even if you are not going to be on the ground with us in Haiti, we’d love to have you come and support us in prayer and fellowship.

We have a blog and a calendar that we are trying to put as much on as possible. This is a great way if you are going on the team to have your supporters, friends and family members be updated on what is going on with the team. I will do my best to get it updated while we are in Haiti too so everyone can check in and see what is going on with us all. All of our emails should be posting on the blog site too, so if you ever miss anything just go to http://www.khchaititeams.blogspot.com/ and our team calendar (which there is a link to on the blog) is http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=aliciamaesimmons%40gmail.com&ctz=America/Los_Angeles

Here’s a summary from our meeting:
We had a great time breaking ice and praying and worshiping together to start everything off. We then discussed Mexico, which all questions should be directed to Marie Constable at constable1999@juno.com

Cost/Deadlines: Based on previous trips we are expecting this trip to cost somewhere in the ballpark of 1000-1250. The first deadline for money is 575 due on September 18th. We want to buy our plane tickets ASAP so we can keep the cost low. Please let us know how you are doing with this or if you need help with anything.

Fundraising: We have many opportunities for fundraising aside from sending out support letters. If you need help with your support letter, we are available to help. We think it is best if the checks are made out to King’s Harbor Church and in the memo line the person writes Your Name – Haiti Oct Team and then sends it to you and you fill out a tithe envelope for that and deposit the envelope in the appropriate place. We are still wondering if anyone is interested in helping with the Lomita Fair and putting out some art to sell to raise money? Please let us know so we can reserve a spot. This is on October 11th.
